What is performance management? How has it changed in recent years?

Performance management is a systematic process for improving organizational performance.It is an ongoing process that involves setting goals, growing skills, coaching, providing feedback, and rewarding employees for their contributions. 

Performance management has undergone a good deal of changes in recent years, including:

  • A shift from a focusing primarily on completing  performance reviews to performance development.  This involves a greater emphasis on coaching and feedback as well as learning.

These changes are reflecting a broader shift in the way that organizations view performance management. It is seen  as a an organizational organizational process that enables the achievement of strategic goals.
